Overview

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mangalbharti, is located on Dabhoi-Bodeli highway at Village Golagamdi.Ta.Sankheda and it is 60 km away from district head quarter i.e. Chhotaudepur. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mangalbharti started functioning from the year 1995 with 100 % financial assistance from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (I.C.A.R.), Ministry of Agriculture & farmer welfare, Gov. of India, New Delhi under the administrative control of Mangalbharti Trust working in the Sankheda Taluka.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra is an innovative science based institution which conducts On Farm Testing for technology assessment and refinement, undertakes vocational training of farmers’ farm women and rural youths and Front Line Demonstration to promote the latest agricultural technologies to the farmers as well as the extension workers. The KVK functions on the principles of collaborative participation of scientist, Subject Matter Specialist, Extension workers and farmers.

Concept of KVK

The KVKs have witnessed several changes in their functions over the years. Accordingly their functional definition also has radically got refined so as to meet the new challenges in agriculture. The most recent definition of a KVK is as follows: “KVKs are grass root level organizations meant for application of technology through assessment, refinement and demonstration of proven technologies under different ‘micro farming’ situations in a district” (Das, 2007). It should be clearly understood that transfer of technology is not a primary function of KVKs and the same is the responsibility of State departments. The KVKs on the other hand will assess and I V. Activities

•On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.

•Organize Frontline Demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers' fields.

•Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.

•To work as knowledge and resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.

•Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest of farmers.

Data documentation, characterization and strategic planning of farming practices

Approach:-

Imparting learning through "Work experience" to those who are engaged in farming, is the main purpose of the KVK. The syllabus and programme of each KVK is tailored to the felt needs of the farmers’ resources and potential for agricultural growth in a particular are 'seeing is believing' & 'learning by doing' are the main methods of imparting skill training.
